When Worry Weighs You Down: 5 Biblical Truths to Fight Anxiety

If you’re a mom who struggles with anxious thoughts and worry, you’re not alone. The pressures and responsibilities of motherhood can feel overwhelming at times. But God’s Word offers us truth to cling to when anxiety tries to take over.

1. “Do not be anxious about anything…” (Philippians 4:6) – God commands us not to be anxious because He knows the toll it takes. When worries start to flood your mind, take them captive and refocus on this truth.

2. “…but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6) – The antidote to anxiety is prayer. Pour out your heart to God and thank Him for being in control.

3. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) – God’s peace surpasses our ability to comprehend it fully. When you pray, His supernatural peace will guard your mind.

4. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) – You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through worry. Give every anxious thought to the One who cares for you deeply.

5. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34) – Anxiety often stems from dwelling on the future. But Jesus reminds us to live one day at a time and not borrow troubles from tomorrow.

The next time anxious thoughts try to weigh you down, mom, meditate on these powerful truths from God’s Word. He is faithful and will guard your heart and mind with His perfect peace.
