The world is quiet tonight, and I’m sitting in the dark with only the nightlight glowing softly beside me. My baby rests peacefully on my lap … her face illuminated just enough for me to see every perfect feature, every breath, every reminder of God’s goodness.
In moments like this, I realize how often we chase peace in all the wrong places. We think it’s found in order, or in catching up, or in finally sleeping through the night. But here, in the middle of my exhaustion and undone to-do lists, I can feel it: real peace, His peace.
The Gift of Stillness
Motherhood has a way of slowing you down. Whether you want it to or not. Between feedings, laundry, homeschooling, and navigating postpartum emotions, there’s not much room for silence. But every now and then, the Lord gifts us a moment like this where the world quiets, and we remember that He is near.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
In the stillness, I’m reminded that peace isn’t the absence of noise; it’s the presence of God.
Faith in the Night
There’s something about holding your baby in the dark that makes faith feel tangible. You can’t see far ahead only what’s illuminated by the light right in front of you … and yet, that’s enough.
Just like this nightlight, His presence is constant. Even when the world feels dim, even when we can’t see the full picture, His light guides us one gentle step at a time.
A Prayer for Tired Hearts
“Lord, thank You for meeting me here in the quiet, in the dim glow of the nightlight, in the middle of motherhood.
Remind me that Your peace isn’t something I have to earn but it’s a gift You freely give.
Help me to rest in Your presence and to trust that You’re holding both me and my child in Your perfect hands.
Amen.”
🌿 Final Thoughts
Tonight, as I sit with her sleeping on my lap, I’m reminded that these fleeting moments, the stillness, the breath, the warmth, are holy ground.
This is peace.
Not because everything is calm or easy, but because He is here.
