Finding Peace in God’s Presence: The Power of Biblical Mindfulness

Today I want to share with you about something that’s been on my heart lately – finding peace in God’s presence through what I like to call “biblical mindfulness.” In our busy lives as moms, wives, and entrepreneurs, it’s so easy to get caught up in the chaos and forget to breathe, isn’t it?


First off, let’s talk about what biblical mindfulness isn’t. It’s not about emptying our minds or trying to achieve some zen-like state. Instead, it’s about intentionally focusing our thoughts on God and His truths. It’s about being present in the moment, but with God at the center of that moment.

So, how do we practice this? Here are a few simple ways I’ve found helpful:


1. Start your day with Scripture: Before the kids wake up and the day gets crazy, I try to spend a few minutes reading the Bible. Even if it’s just a verse or two, it helps set the tone for the day.

2. Practice gratitude: Throughout the day, I try to notice the little blessings – my daughter’s laugh, a warm cup of coffee, a kind word from a friend. Each of these is a gift from God, and acknowledging them helps keep my mind focused on His goodness.

3. Breathe and pray: When things get overwhelming (and let’s face it, with kids, that happens a lot!), I take a deep breath and say a quick prayer. It might be as simple as “Jesus, help me,” but it reminds me that He’s right there with me.

4. Nature walks: There’s something about being in God’s creation that helps calm my mind. When possible, I love taking the kids for a walk and pointing out the beautiful things God has made.

5. Meditate on Scripture: This isn’t about emptying your mind, but filling it with God’s word. I often choose a verse to focus on throughout the day, repeating it to myself when I need a reminder of God’s truth.

Remember, Philippians 4:8 tells us, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” This is the essence of biblical mindfulness – intentionally directing our thoughts towards God and His goodness.

It’s not always easy, and some days I fail miserably at staying focused on God. But that’s where grace comes in, right? We’re not aiming for perfection, just progress. And every moment we choose to turn our minds to God is a victory.

So, my friends, I encourage you to give biblical mindfulness a try. In the midst of dirty diapers, homeschool lessons, and business calls, let’s make an effort to stay connected to the source of true peace – our loving Father.
