Finding Rest in God: The Importance of Sabbath in Modern Life

In our crazy-busy world, it feels like we’re always running from one thing to the next, doesn’t it? But here’s the thing: God actually commanded us to rest. Yep, you heard that right!

Remember the Ten Commandments? One of them is all about keeping the Sabbath holy. Now, whether you observe this on Saturday or Sunday, the principle is the same – we need to take time to rest and reconnect with God.

So why is this so important in our modern lives?

1. It helps us recharge: Just like your phone needs to be plugged in, we need to “plug into” God to recharge our spiritual batteries.

2. It reminds us who’s really in control: When we step back from our work, we’re saying, “God, I trust you to take care of things.”

3. It gives us perspective: Taking a day to focus on God helps us see the bigger picture beyond our day-to-day worries.

4. It strengthens our relationships: A day of rest gives us time to connect with family, friends, and our church community.

5. It’s good for our health: Both our bodies and minds need regular rest to function well.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “But I have so much to do!” Trust me, I get it. I’m a busy mom and entrepreneur too. But here’s what I’ve learned: when I make time for rest and focusing on God, everything else falls into place.

So, what might this look like practically? It could be going to church, having a family meal, reading your Bible, or just taking a peaceful walk in nature. The key is to set aside time to rest and focus on God.

Remember, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Let’s take Him up on that offer!

What about you? How do you find rest in God? Share your thoughts in the comments – I’d love to hear from you!
