I read something today that said “Change is the only constant in life” …. I have to disagree with this statement although there is some truth to it.
God is constant and so is His Word! God does not change but He brings change in our life. Change brings growth. Growth is painful but needed.
He brings us through seasons in our life & the seasons of others. Some people are only in our life for a season. Some roles they play are only for a season. Some job positions are only for a season. Some places are only for a season. God tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under the heavens…”
I HATE change. I think it is rooted in the inability to control. I like to have control over things and my circumstances, although, do I really ever have the control? We know God is the One in control. He knows what He is doing. I have been growing in this area lately, letting go of control and letting God work. Letting God bring change.
How should I respond to change or news that brings change?
Paul writes in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer & petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Usually I want to respond immediately with lots of emotions: anger, questioning, selfish thinking …. However God has been breaking me off this. Yes, it takes time to process … But tonight brought tears of joy, sadness, celebration, a moment to think, gratitude, then prayer.
Run to Jesus! Open His Word. Turn on the Christian Music and pray.
So my process for handling news about change:
1. Congratulate and Listen
2. Stop, breathe, process
(3-5 happens kind of all at the same time or not in a specific order)
Journal emotions, listen to Christian music
Pray and Meditate in God’s Word
Think about others in the situation
6. Pray AND Release!
Give it to God. He is showing up and doing Big things. He is in control. Change brings Growth … God brings peace through the change.
