Hey there, mama! It’s Sarah here, and today we’re talking about something I know we all struggle with – setting realistic health goals when we’re juggling a million and one things. Can I get an amen?
Let’s face it, between pull up changes, homeschooling, and trying to keep the house from looking like a tornado hit it, finding time for our health can feel like mission impossible. But here’s the thing – our health matters. Not just for us, but for our families too. So, let’s chat about how we can set some doable health goals, shall we?
1. Start Small, Dream Big
First things first, let’s ditch the idea that we need to overhaul our entire life overnight. That’s a recipe for burnout, and we’ve got enough on our plates! Instead, think small, sustainable changes. Maybe it’s swapping your afternoon soda for water or taking a 10-minute walk after dinner. These little changes add up, I promise!
2. Make it Specific and Measurable
Vague goals like “eat healthier” are tough to stick to. Instead, try something like “eat one serving of vegetables with every meal” or “do 15 minutes of stretching before bed.” This way, you know exactly what you’re aiming for.
3. Be Realistic (and Kind to Yourself)
Remember, we’re not aiming for perfection here. We’re aiming for progress. If you haven’t exercised in years, training for a marathon might not be the best first goal. But how about a 5K walk? And on the days when things don’t go as planned (because, let’s be real, that happens), give yourself grace. Tomorrow is a new day!
4. Schedule It In
Us moms live and die by our schedules, right? So treat your health goals like any other important appointment. Block out time for that workout, that meal prep, or even just that 5 minutes of quiet time with your Bible. If it’s on the calendar, it’s more likely to happen!
5. Get the Family Involved
Who says health goals have to be a solo mission? Get the kiddos involved! Make it a family challenge to try a new veggie each week, or have a dance party in the living room. It’s a win-win – you’re working towards your goals and creating fun family memories.
6. Pray About It
Don’t forget, mama, we’ve got the ultimate support system – our faith. Pray about your health goals. Ask God for strength, discipline, and wisdom. Remember, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), so taking care of them is part of our faith journey too.
7. Celebrate the Wins (Big and Small)
Did you drink your water goal for the day? Awesome! Did you choose a side salad instead of fries? You rock! Celebrate these wins. They’re all steps in the right direction.
Remember, sweet friend, this health journey isn’t about becoming a whole new person. It’s about becoming the best version of the amazing woman God created you to be. You’ve got this, and more importantly, God’s got you.
So, what health goal are you setting this week? Drop it in the comments below. Let’s encourage each other and cheer each other on. After all, we’re in this together!
Hugs and health, Sarah (MindOverMom)
P.S. Don’t forget to give yourself grace. You’re doing an amazing job, mama!
